A new wine for us, we've been working closely with Wally Brueske on his 1 acre Pinot vineyard to dial in his pruning and increase the vitality of his soils vineyard. The vineyard is just down the road from where we farm our Carneros Cabernet and Merlot. Not only does he grow grapes, but he distills essential oils on his property, rosehip, tea tree and thyme to name a few. At 12% alcohol, this Pinot is super unique and fresh while maintaining a good level of fruit that is balanced nicely with the high-toned aromas from the essential oils. Bottled last July with zero additions, no sulfites added.
A perennial favorite of ours, Larry Venturi farms these 70+ y/o, dry-farmed Sauvignon blanc vines totally organically. The wine has loads of tension and salinity balanced nicely by citrus and bright fruit. Bottled with zero additions, no sulfites added.
A friendly blend of Carignane, Zinfandel, and Petit Sirah, the 2017 Wabi-Sabi blend is nicely rich while maintaining freshness and acidity.
The Licorne Mechante (Wicked Unicorn) Sparkling Zinfandel is our first foray into pet-nat, or petillant naturel. Made from bled off saignee juice from our old-vine Zinfandel, we bottle this wine before it is totally dry in order to capture the carbon dioxide produced at the end of fermentation. The resulting sparkling wine is packed full of berry and fruit on the nose and is deliciously creamy and fresh on the palate.
